Main Lakshmi Tere Aangan Ki - Encyclopedia
This is the story of a middle class girl named Lakshmi. She lives a middle class life, but she feels that money is also very important. She mostly wants money because her mother died of pneumonia since they couldn't afford her treatment, and her aunt never got a chance to get married because they couldn't afford it. She dreams of marrying Arjun Agnihotri, a rich boy, from childhood. Although, she's only seen Arjun once, when she was 9. She doesn't know what Arjun looks like in the present, because he went to London for 10 years to study. Arjun and Lakshmi get to know each other coincidently. During one of the initial meetings between Arjun and Lakshmi, Arjun comes to know about Lakshmi's dream of marrying Arjun and become rich. In the course of time, Arjun falls in love with Lakshmi but keeps his identity secret under the disguise of Ajay Sharma. Ajay wanted Lakshmi's love but not just because he is a rich man.
In the meanwhile, Arjun's father asks Arjun and his childhood friend Purva to tie knot as they both are perfect for each other but Arjun tells Purva about his feelings for Lakshmi which brings disappointment to Purva who loves Arjun. Ajay proposes Lakshmi on a certain day for marriage but Lakshmi refuses to fulfill her dreams of marrying Arjun Agnihotri. After she refuses he gives up and thinks that Lakshmi only loves money and not Arjun actually. Eventually, Arjun's Dadi enters in the picture to make realize Lakshmi that she genuinely has fallen for Ajay but her dreams of becoming rich are acting as the barrier. So she sets up a plan, Arjun's friend Ajay Sharma takes the identity of Arjun Agnihotri and meets Lakshmi.
Then Dadi invites Lakshmi for a trip to Ramsagar along with her paternal aunt, Arjun, Ajay, Purva and Swati. In this trip Dadi plans for a test of Lakshmi to see whether she loves Ajay or the rich man Arjun.Lakshmi takes great care of Arjun throughout the trip, cooks food for everyone at a local dhaba and when once surrounded by goons, Arjun sacrifices his life to save Lakshmi.Lakshmi accepts Arjun's proposal of marriage. At their engagement ceremony, Arjun tells Lakshmi that he is not Ajay Sharma but Arjun Agnihotri in a grand way. Lakshmi is shocked but happy. They get engaged. Later Arjun's dad take part in his wedding although he was not happy. Arjun's ex-girlfriend Soumya comes from London to take part in Arjun's wedding. During their first night, Arjun tells Lakshmi all about Soumya. Lakshmi is unhappy about hearing this. Arjun's dad invites Soumya to stay at their mansion. Later many misunderstandings occur between Lakshmi and Rajvardhan Agnihotri.
Vishal writes about Rajvardhan Agnihotri's fraud in newspaper which causes them to leave Agnihotri Mansion and they go to Lakshmi's house. Soumya wants to help Arjun but Arjun disagrees. Then Soumya puts an agreement before Lakshmi to sell her husband to her but Lakshmi refuses. Then the situation comes bad to the Agnihotris and the auction day comes but Lakshmi delays it for 2 houes but Vishal again re-opens it. The auction starts but Lakshmi reaches there and buys mansion for 80 crores and agrees with Soumya's agreement.
The Agnihotris shift to Agnihotri Mansion and Lakshmi helps Soumya to woo Arjun. In one of these situations, Lakshmi plans to go to London but Ajay stops her. At the mansion, Ajay falls in love with Soumya and Arjun helps him to impress Soumya but on the other hand Lakshmi and Soumya think that Arjun has agreed to marry Soumya. But on Soumya's birthday party, Arjun comes to know that Lakshmi has agreed to Soumya's deal and blames Lakshmi for being selfish. Lakshmi goes out of the mansion and is shot by some goons for not giving her engagement ring.
Arjun initially cancels the deal but accepts the deal when Dadi tells him that it is the only way to make Lakshmi realise the truth. First, Dadi starts her plan by enacting Arjun-Lakshmi's divorce, the next day Arjun-Soumya are married at the registrar office. Lakshmi fulfills her most recent dream of getting Arjun-Soumya married but feels pangs of jealousy at moments. Before his wedding night, Arjun gives Lakshmi a costly diamond necklace. Arjun manages to escape from Soumya by pretending to have a cold.
Dadi's plan keeps on making Lakshmi regret her decision, by Arjun-Soumya's honeymoon, Arjun avoiding her and getting close to Soumya at Sanatanagar. Arjun sings the song for Soumya which he previously used to sing for Lakshmi and Lakshmi gets deeply hurt. Cautioned by Saraswati, Lakshmi books tickets for her and Arjun for Amarnath. Arjun gets convinced that Lakshmi regrets having married him and Soumya. She gets late by five minutes due to Soumya making the helicopter 2 hours late which was to take them back to Kanpur. As a result, Soumya gets a free week with Arjun and gets tickets for an outing in Switzerland. Lakshmi tries to tell everyone the truth but everyone refuse to believe Lakshmi.
Arjun tells a plan to Saraswati to tell Lakshmi to stop them from going to Switzerland. Saraswati agrees and tells Lakshmi the plan. Lakshmi gets happy and burns Arjun and Soumya's passport.Everyone gets upset the next day and leaves Lakshmi alone with the property. Lakshmi transfers the property back to Soumya. Lakshmi gets tot the hospital where Arjun has been admitted and is rebuked by Soumya. The doctor says Arjun will lose his eyes if they do not have a donor in 3 hours but due to the shortage of eye donors available in India Dadi pleads Soumya to do it so she unwillingly agrees. Later when the operation starts Soumya runs away to Agnihotri Mansion.
Seeing this, Dadi and Arjun tell the truth to Soumya and Arjun tells her that how selfish she is. Soumya realises her mistake and gets Lakshmi and Arjun united. She doesn't take the property papers and decides to go back to London. Lakshmi and Arjun are reunited and they consummate their marriage.
A year later, Arjun-Lakshmi's daughter Jiyana is born. Lakshmi dies shortly after. Seven years later a young woman named Kaanchi whose look and behaviour is like Lakshmi is introduced who helps her family run a restaurant. Arjun emphasizes that he will not remarry. Kaanchi tells that until she makes her dreams of her restaurant the best Thali restaurant in Kanpur and establishes her chain of restaurants she won't marry.
Kaanchi and her family go to the mall to purchase items due to discount on 15 August. Jiyana also comes to the mall. A group of thieves steal her chain in which a picture of Arjun-Lakshmi is kept. Then Kaanchi sees Jiyana chasing the thieves and helps Jiyana get her chain back. Jiyana is astonished that Kaanchi looks like her mother Lakshmi. Bua and Jiyana find Kanchi in her restaurant. Jiyana and Bua invite Kaanchi to see Arjun under the pretext of bringing a delivery, however their plan fails when Arjun goes to the washroom when Kanchi is about to go home.
Kaanchi borrows Arjun's bicycle and sets off for home. Arjun goes next morning to Kanchi's restaurant to get his cycle but the people there think him trying to steal the cycle and send him off. Kanchi's paternal uncle and younger sister come to give the cycle back and are astounded to find that the supposed thief is the real Arjun Agnihotri.
Jiyana and Arjun arrive at Kanchi's friend's wedding where she is doing the catering. While remembering Lakshmi when seeing the samosas, Kaanchi thinks that Arjun is stealing them and goes to confront him. Arjun is shocked at seeing Kaanchi who insults him. Tinki tells her that he is the real Arjun Agnihotri. Kaanchi asks for forgiveness but Arjun goes with Jiyana without saying anything.
Arjun tells Bua and Jiyana that he wont marry and takes a decision that they will shift to the U.S.A.. Agnihotri Constructions plans to build a mall in Hindustan Nagar. Kaanchi pleads Arjun not to but he doesn't agreee. Kaanchi and Arjun go to Allahabad, one for getting the stay order and the other for attending a meeting.
They both get stranded on the Bareilly highway. They get a lift on a bullock cart by Kaanchi pretending to be a pregnant woman. Arjun and Kaanchi coincidently stay in one hotel where they suddenly see each other and are arrested by the police for doing illegal work and run away. The next morning, Kaanchi breaks Arjun's phone and Arjun calls Jiyana through a PCO. Jiyana and Bua are happy when they come to know that Arjun is with Kaanchi.
They then come to a set where they see Ragini Khanna who is also going to Allahabad .They pretend that they are junior artist. And at the shooting, Arjun and Kaanchi act to be engaged. Ragini decides to help them because they helped her. In the car they tell her how they met and she thought that he was a cycle thief.
Kaanchi fails to get the stay order and comes to Kanpur heart broken.Arjun's assistant tells the locality that the mall project has been cancelled.Kaanchi goes to thank Arjun but Arjun still remains angry and she goes.Kaanchi meets her close friend, Aditya who has returned from studying at Lucknow.They both are engaged when their families come to know that they love each other. Kaanchi finds that Aditya loves someone else and uses Arjun's help to get Aditya back.
Arjun helps Kaanchi by bringing her designer wear, teaching her to wear heels, and appoints her as the Catering Manager in his company.But Jiyana comes up with a plan to get Arjun and Kaanchi fall in love with each other, under the pretence of securing Aditya's love for Kaanchi .In the plan, Arjun and Kaanchi have to pretend to be attached to each other which will make Aditya jealous.Arjun starts getting close to Kaanchi and saves her from a fake fire[Kaanchi's plan] in his arms, which makes Aditya jealous.Arjun gets Aditya's present love, Raina, a promotion in which she is required to go to Delhi.Raina agrees, arguing with Aditya that it is for their own better future.Aditya is heartbroken on hearing this.
Jiyana gets high fever and Kaanchi fails to go to Lucknow with Arjun and Aditya, as part of Arjun's plan, to nurse Jiyana.Under her care, Jiyana gets better, but Arjun gets angry on the phone at her without knowing the situation. Aditya hears Arjun talking with Kaanchi.Arjun rushes back to Kanpur and is reminded of Lakshmi when he learns about Kaanchi's motherly love for Jiyana which prevented her from being with Aditya.Kaanchi sees Arjun with Lakshmi's photo which she supposes is hers and accuses Arjun of loving her when she has always loved Aditya.Arjun shows her his wedding photos, Lakshmi's sarees and their videos as part of evidence and asks forgiveness for any inconvenience he might have caused.Kaanchi comforts him .
Aditya calls Kaanchi and warns her that Arjun is trying to get close to her. An enraged Kaanchi tells him about his filthy thinking.Arjun leaves Kaanchi to her home. Kaanchi's mother wishes her on her good fortune by supposing that it was Aditya who saved her from the fire, without caring for his life.Next morning, Arjun and Kaanchi are romantingly caught up again.Kaanchi's mother calls to say that Kaanchi's wedding is to be the next day.Both Arjun and Kaanchi are dismayed at the news.Kaanchi takes her leave from the Agnihotri family.Jiyana sobs at hearing the news.Kaanchi entreats an explanation from Aditya who fancies her to love somebody else.
