COMING UP, JARVIS. ALL RIGHT. THANKS SO MUCH, BRYLEE. WELL, TRUCK DRIVERS ACROSS ALABAMA DEALING WITH TREMENDOUS ICY ROADS EARLIER THIS WEEK, 18 WHEELER SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL. SOME EVEN STUCK FOR HOURS ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. AND IT REALLY IS TAKING ON A TOLL ON A LOT OF THEM ACROSS OUR STATE. WVTM 13 S PATSY DOUGLAS IS LIVE ON LOCAL FOR US. SHE’S AT A LOCAL TRUCK STOP THIS MORNING. PATSY, THESE SITUATIONS ARE HAPPENING A LITTLE TOO OFTEN THIS WEEK. OH, WAY TOO OFTEN. AND I’M SURE THAT THESE TRUCK DRIVERS BEHIND ME ARE TRYING TO PREP FOR YET ANOTHER DAY OF THESE COLD DROPPING TEMPERATURES THAT WE ARE ALL FACING A LITTLE TROOPERS, AS WELL AS SOME LOCAL TOW TRUCKS, HAVE BEEN REALLY WORKING OVERTIME TO HELP SOME OF THE SITUATIONS THAT MANY OF THESE TRUCK DRIVERS WERE GOING THROUGH, ESPECIALLY EARLIER THIS WEEK. NOW, 280, THEY SAW SOME ISSUES AS WELL AS TRUCK DRIVERS ON HIGHWAY 69 IN CULLMAN COUNTY. THEY WERE BACKED UP AS WELL. MOST OF THEM COULDN’T CONTINUE THEIR ROUTE BECAUSE OF THE ICY CONDITIONS. NOW ALL WEEK PARTS OF CENTRAL ALABAMA WERE FACED WITH SEVERAL MAJOR CRASHES INVOLVING 18 WHEELERS, TRACTOR TRAILERS AS WELL, MOST OF THEM COMING IN CONTACT WITH ICE AND EVEN SNOW. BUT THERE ARE SOME DRIVERS WHO ARE AVOIDING THE ICY ROADS RIGHT NOW. THE LOAD THAT WAS GOING TO THE IMPACT AREA. I STAYED AWAY FROM IT AND I THINK COMPANIES I THINK, YOU KNOW, A LOT OF COMPANIES SHOULD ADAPT THAT METHOD OF LETTING DRIVERS CHOOSE, YOU KNOW, WHICH ROUTE THEY WANT TO GO VERSUS FORCE DISPATCH. AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HE DID. HE TOOK ANOTHER ROUTE TO ANOTHER STATE TO AVOID THAT IMPACT AREA. MOST OF THE TRUCK DRIVERS ALSO THAT I SPEAK WITH, THEY SAY THAT THEY ARE HOPING THAT ALDOT DOES MORE PREPARATION ON THE ROADS, SO THEY WILL HAVE SAFE TRAVELS TO WHEREVER THEY HAVE TO DROP MATERIALS OFF IN ANOTHER OTHER LOCATIONS IN BIRMINGHAM PATSY DOUGLAS WVTM 13. ALL RIGHT. THANKS, PATSY. AND SOME PARTS OF THE ICE WAS SO BAD PEOPLE ABANDONED THEIR VEHICLES ON THE ROADS. WE ACTUALLY SPOKE WITH ONE WOMAN WHOSE SON WRECKED THIS CAR IN REDMONT PARK. HE WAS LEFT WITH A FLAT TIRE AND A DAMAGED CAR. BUT EVEN AFTER THAT, HIS MOTHER SAYS PEOPLE STILL WERE ASKING HER IF THATRILLIONOAD WAS SAFE. AND THEN THERE’S A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT STOPPED AND THEY ASKED ME. IT WAS LIKE, IT’S THE ROAD IS SAFE TO GO DOWN. IT’S LIKE, NO, PLEASE DON’T
