Driver in stolen vehicle crashes in New Haven cruiser

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A person driving a stolen vehicle drove off from a traffic stop, hit into a police cruiser twice and then ran off, according to New Haven officers.

Officers were making traffic stops at about 11 p.m. Saturday on Lombard Street when police spotted a stolen vehicle and tried to stop it, according to authorities. The officer conducting the stop was in an unmarked cruiser and activated their lights and siren.

The vehicle drove away, crashed head-on into the cruiser and then backed up and hit it again, according to police. The driver then ran away. No arrests have been made.

The officer was evaluated at the scene, but did not need medical treatment.

Police have not publicly provided a description of the stolen vehicle or the suspect.
