UMass Lowell hockey team falls 7-2, swept on road by Maine – Lowell Sun

It was a long bus ride home from Orono, Maine to the Tsongas Center on Saturday night.

Maine finished the weekend sweep of UMass Lowell, 7-2, shrugging off an early goal to blast the River Hawks at the Alfond Arena.

Eighth-ranked Maine (16-4-2, 8-3-1) won Friday’s game 5-3 over UMass Lowell (7-14-2, 3-8-1).

In the rematch, Nick Rheaume got UML off to a flying start when he scored 1:48 in following passes by Matt Crasa and Alex Peterson.

But the River Hawks allowed a shorthanded goal as the teams were tied 1-1 after one period.

After Maine took a 2-1 lead, UML’s Owen Cole scored a goal for the fifth straight game to make it 2-2. TJ Schweighardt and Ben Meehan earned assists.

But it was all Maine the rest of the night. Harrison Scott netted a hat trick for the Black Bears. Luke Pavicich had a rough outing in net for UML, stopping just 20 of 27 shots. Edvard Nordlund stopped all five shots he faced in relief.
