Cheshire High School game brings together 50 years of hockey players

CHESHIRE, Conn. (WTNH) — A Cheshire High School hockey game on Saturday celebrated the team’s 50 year-history — and brought together players from every season of its dynasty.

That reunion included teammates from the school’s first state championship in 1978.

All-time goals leader Rick Fitzgerald was in attendance to celebrate the anniversary.

“I love these people, absolutely love it,” he said. “It was a great part of our lives.”

Also in attendance was Larry Richards, who scored the team’s first-ever goal. He said he still has the puck at home.

Cheshire High School is the only team in the state to win titles in Division I, Division II and Division III hockey.

“So it’s just a long tradition that we want to honor every chance we get,” said Anthony Giusto, the team’s head coach.

The Rams beat North Haven High School 5-3 in Saturday’s game. It was the team’s fifth straight win.
