Huntsville’s Nick Dunlap wins The American Express, first amateur to win a PGA TOUR Event since 1991

LA QUINTA, Cali. (WHNT)- Huntsville’s Nick Dunlap continued to make history on Sunday, winning the American Express. With the win, Dunlap becomes the first amateur to win a PGA TOUR Event since 1991.

Dunlap had a remarkable 2023. Over the summer, he won the 123rd U.S. Amateur Championship, joining Tiger Woods as the only player to win the U.S. Junior Am and the U.S. Amateur.

He was also part of the winning Team USA at the Walker Cup. During the fall semester at Alabama, he won stroke-play medalist honors at the SEC Match Play to claim his second career individual title. The sophomore golfer for the Crimson Tide also won back-to-back SEC Golfer of the Week honors.

On Saturday, Dunlap carded a 12-under 60, becoming just the second amateur to card a 60 at a PGA TOUR Event.
